Of Dreams and Miracles

It's happened to all of us.

We wake in the wee hours of the morning or by the first light of the breaking day,

and we’re sweating, or we’re laughing, or we’re crying,

or maybe we’ve risen with some great revelation,

a profound insight into the nature of life or existence as a whole.

Whatever the specific state in which we found ourselves upon waking,

the root lies in a vision that came to us while still deep within our dreams.

The substance of dreams has been scrutinized across time and culture and spirituality,

resulting in any number of interpretations as to their meaning or lack thereof.

All we can know for sure,

is that to us as individuals,

in the instant of transitioning from one reality into the other,

the experience is so vivid that we think we may never look at the tangibility of our waking life in the same way again.

Truly,

these encounters often feel so visceral at the time,

that we believe we'll never forget them,

be it 10 days or 10 years down the road.

But low,

as is the predictable nature of the human being,

our memories are short,

our great revelations and insights fleeting.

Often by days end if not before,

we struggle to recall even the basic who, what, when, or where of our witching hour inspirations,

and resign ourselves to live on as if they'd never come to us in the first place.

In my life,

I’ve found miracles to be very much like dreams.

Its believed that we have several dreams every night,

though we only recall a small fraction.

It is my belief that we experience a multitude of miracles each day,

though are only conscious to a select few.

And much like waking from a dream,

each of us has faced occurrences that seemed to waken us to some higher intelligence.

Be it a brush with death,

fellowship,

or simply being in the right place at the right time,

there have certainly been instances in all our lives that have briefly convinced us without a shadow of a doubt,

that there was a grander plan for our time here.

But just as dreams fade,

though we once saw the light,

we soon return to the fears, frustrations, and perceived failures of the day to day,

and quickly lose the forest to the trees of our own self doubt.

Albert Einstein famously said:

“There are only two ways to live your life.

One is as though nothing is a miracle.

The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

Our lives don’t stand to be altered solely by those large grandiose events that are impossible to ignore,

but by the instant to instant happenings that are almost impossible to perceive.

These occasions of kismet, destiny, and fate,

tend to pass us by like dreams in the night,

our limited sight incapable of recognizing their potential long term impact.

And even in the face of those circumstances that do temporarily shatter our world view,

in time we often find ourselves falling back into old routines,

and just as a vivid dream wanes from memory,

so do we into the consciousness and belief systems of our old self.

However,

just as one might nurture the lucidity of their dreams by bringing awareness to the parallels within their nightly visions,

so do I believe that we can nurture the potential miracle behind each choice,

by bringing greater awareness to the parallels in our waking visions,

and the inspirations that attract them to us.

Christ said,

“Ask and ye shall receive,

seek and ye shall find,

knock and the door shall be opened unto you.”

What you are searching for,

is searching for you.

By turning our consciousness first to thoughts of presence, focus, and faith,

as part and parcel of the source,

we allow the infinite intelligence to speak directly through us,

via means of our intuition,

and the belief that it will guide us home.

By steadying the storm of our thoughts and emotions,

we find stillness in the present moment,

clearing our sight to focus in on where it is we’re going,

and to see that the universe is conspiring to lead us there.

By opening our heart, mind, and soul to a world of infinite possibility,

we allow life’s little miracles to lead us to the manifestation of all our dreams,

all that we could ever hope for or hope to be.

We may never be conscious to all the universe does to move us forward,

in our waking or our sleeping life,

but when we choose to let go and let God,

(so to speak)

we may just find that the real miracle,

is that we’ve been living our dream all along.
